I have been involved with the Scottish Tartans Museum in Franklin, NC, since January of 1997. I have written articles on topics having to do with Highland Dress in the Scottish Banner as well as various clan society newsletters and Highland Games programs.
I have also designed tartans for many individuals, families, and institutions, including the St. Ninian tartan created for the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, to celebrate his historic visit to Scotland on Sept. 16, 2010. I am a kilt maker, specializing in hand tailored kilts in the traditional early-nineteenth century box pleated style.

Most people prefer to wear a tartan that is associated with their family roots, and I spend much of my time answering these inquiries. If you want to write me about such a search, please write me at my work address, rather than my personal address. My work address is: tartans@scottishtartans.org.
I often get invited by schools and Scottish interest groups to give presentations on Highland dress, and the history of the kilt and tartan. If you are interested in having me come to your event for a program, please email me for information using the "contact" link at the top of the page. The honorarium will depend on the travel involved and how much of my expenses will be covered.
I contribute frequently to Highland Dress discussions on the Scottish Attire e-mail list, as well as the X Marks the Scot forum.
I hold a BA in English Literature (summa cum laude) from the Honors College of Western Carolina University, and an MA in Theology (summa cum laude) from Holy Apostles College & Seminary in Cromwell, CT. I also serve as a Lay Ecclesial Minister for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charlotte as the Catholic Campus Minister for Western Carolina University.
My wife and I live in the mountains of western North Carolina with our five children and a small flock of free range hens.
